TRUCKING MAGAZINE ARTICLE

Indiana Jones once said -"It's not the years, Honey. It's the mileage", and what that really means is that what's important in life isn't how old a person is, but rather the life that person lives, and for father and son Jeremy and Jarrett this couldn't be more true. You see a few years ago Jarrett was diagnosed with Lyme disease, and since that diagnosis life for him at times has been a near death struggle on the daily. So in an effort to do what any good Dad would do, Jeremy decided to add some quality miles to Jarrett's life and to encourage him to gather strength to fight the disease by building him the BadAss 50 Chevrolet 3100 pickup you see here. The 3100 series of trucks is what Chevy called the Advanced-Design series, larger, stronger and was the first major redesign after WWII, although in comparison to today's pickups it would be dwarfed in size.

To make the most of the clean classic lines of the 50 Sam "Doc" Hutchinson of Epic Rod and Custom was commissioned to take the build to fruition and not being one to do anything half way Sam set the Chevy up on a custom back halved S-10 based frame. Starting in the front is a set of Thorbros tubular control arms that hang on to a pair of 2" Bell tech drop spindles all suspended by a set of Slam Specialties RE6 bags, out back is a triangulated 4-link that hangs onto a 7.5" S-10 rear axle housing filled with a 3.73 gear and an Auburn LSD, again suspended by a pair of Slam RE6s. All that custom chassis and bags allowed Sam to literally sit the running boards of this now low hanging fruit firmly down onto Mother earth, the large fenders of the 50 make tucking the staggered 20" Ridler wheels, 9s and 10.5s respectively, look easy. To make sure the truck did more than just look pretty a brand new GM crate LSX-376 was installed into the frame rails, fueled by a Holley Terminator EFI and backed by a National transmission built stage 2 700R4 with 2400 high stall convertor. To deal with the spent exhaust gases a set of Headman shorty conversion headers, 2.5" dual exhaust and pair of Magnaflow mufflers handle the task with ease. Now that the powertrain package was capable of some GO, some brake upgrades were in order to give the truck some WOAH, this came in the form of custom fitted Wilwoods front and rear. To go with the mostly original body a blue Patina was complimented by some old school pin striping and door logos dubbed So-Low Crop Dusting, "We can be found Flyin close to the ground!" To keep things comfortable the interior is a full custom arrangement that incorporates blue and black leather was done by Auto temp.

Since debuting the 18 month build has cleaned up at shows, and over and above that has put a smile on Jarrett's face and clocked more of those miles of life on the odometer. Mission accomplished Dad, we're sure the 3100 is doing just what it was intended to do and more!
